LGBTQI+ Dress Up Day
Last Friday University High School celebrated IDAHOBIT by hosting an LGBTQI+ dress up day. IDAHOBIT means International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. It is the anniversary of the day when the classification of homosexuality as a mental disorder was removed by the world health organisation. The day was originally called IDAHO but since then biphobia and transphobia have been added to the acronym. The dress up day was organised by Spectrum and people came as a range of LGBTQI+ characters.
The day was held to celebrate diversity throughout Pop Culture but also to encourage the representation of marginalised voices in today's media. Overall the day was a huge success with heaps of fabulous outfits (we had our eyes on you especially Ms Shukroon). We'd like to thank everyone who participated for both the lively outfits and for taking a stand against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.
